Mrs. Wehrbein--Part II--The Flowers
Welcome back to the Mrs. Wehrbein Wedding Series! If you missed Part 1 (What We Wore) you can find it here!
Peonies & Eucalyptus
Is there anything else any bride could want?! Just kidding!
Those were my flora of choice for our spring wedding. I wanted something in season (Nebraska in late May is perfect for peonies!), and something that could be easily collected in large quantities!
We know a family at our church who grows and sells peonies at the Omaha Farmer's Market, so we were able to get most of the these beautiful blooms through them (HUGE blessing!). Then we posted on our church's "Buy Sell Trade" group on Facebook, asking if people would be willing to let us cut a few stems off of their peony bushes! We collected a whole list of people who were willing (HUGE blessing number two!), and then we literally drove around with scissors! It was a blast!
I purchased some dried eucalyptus from Michaels and the rest we got fresh from Trader Joe's (so affordable!).
Once we had collected all of the flowers and greenery, it was time to assemble all bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, and centerpieces. My sweet friends Melissa (also our photographer!) and Michelle (our violinist and cake maker!!) helped us put together all the flower related things! These two sisters know their flowers! Melissa worked in a floral shop for years, and Michelle is one of those people who is good at everything she touches, so they were able to teach us a lot! My mom, my sister, and I were SO thankful for their help!
Once we got all of the difficult flower arrangements complete, my mom, my sister, and my very best friend Sarah, and I put together the centerpieces out at our reception venue! We used 2-3 blooms and eucalyptus inside of a vintage mason jar! So fun!
And the final product! These flowers were the highlight of the decor. They pulled everything together and made the whole day even more beautiful!
So beautiful!!! My tip for all of you brides out there: if you can, find flowers that are already blooming around you--not only does it save money, but it also makes the whole experience so enjoyable! Add those memories to your wedding weekend!
grace & peace
